Two Persons Per Bedroom Is the Law - and Other Fair Housing Compliance Misconceptions!

As we mark the 55th anniversary of the Fair Housing Act, it's critical that we focus our compliance efforts on meeting the real requirements rather than perpetuating widespread misconceptions about fair housing compliance.
It is crucial for us to distinguish between factual information and false beliefs regarding fair housing compliance, as these standards evolve with the addition of new protected classes, court rulings, and guidance from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the Department of Justice (DOJ).

Due to the widespread use of social media platforms, many multifamily professionals are unknowingly posting inquiries and relying on responses from well-intentioned individuals who may lack the necessary expertise, experience, or understanding to provide accurate replies.

Furthermore, certain misconceptions, such as the belief that "treating everyone equally" is sufficient, the notion that having two people per bedroom is always acceptable, and the requirement for individuals under 18 to be accompanied by a parent or guardian, endure and remain the cause of complaints and legal actions related to fair housing.

This seminar will refute those and other myths, as well as provide participants with resources for distinguishing between fact and fiction.
